120,000+ Pounds of Bacon and Turkey Products Recalled Due to Undeclared Allergens
The items all contain a known allergen that isn't listed on the packaging.
Just in the past week, we’ve seen it all, from flour recalls to the expansion of the E. coli outbreak from romaine lettuce. It doesn’t look like recalls will be slowing down anytime soon, and there’s another one on the rise. Now, a 121,083-pound bacon and turkey recall is wreaking havoc in kitchens.
This recall was issued on November 29, 2019 and affects four states: Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. Find the full FSIS statement here.
What products are recalled?
This bacon and turkey recall covers more than 100,000 pounds of product but is isolated to four states. It affects five different products of various sizes, all hailing from Blue Grass Quality Meats in Kentucky. The items are recalled because they contain soy, which is a known allergen that went unlisted on the packaging. Here’s what to check out in your fridge:
- Blue Grass Cajun Style Turkey Breast
- Olde World Cajun Style Turkey Breast
- Robinson’s Premium Cajun Style Turkey Breast
- Troyer Cajun Style Turkey Breast
- Troyer Cajun Style Bacon
The issue was discovered when a seasoning supplier notified Blue Grass Quality Meats that the seasoning blend used on the products contains soy. So far, illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported. But the company wants to make sure no accidental allergens are in your refrigerator.
How do I know if I have one of these products?
It may be tough to know for sure, because the packaging is likely in your grocery store’s deli case, rather than in your refrigerator. The original labels bear either the establishment number “P-7417” or “EST. 7417.” You can find these numbers inside the USDA mark of inspection. Find the product labels here.
To determine whether or not your items are affected by the recall, watch out for these sell-by dates:

I have one of these products! What should I do with it?
Even if you don’t have an allergy to soy, FSIS urges consumers to toss the products or return them. You should be able to take the bacon or turkey back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
FSIS also warned retailers to pull these items from shelves, but remember to keep an eye out during your weekly grocery run.
