Family Dollar Just Issued a Massive Recall Across 400+ Stores
The recall affects food products, pet food, medical devices, cosmetics and dietary supplements.
We love the low prices at dollar stores—not to mention the affordable cooking supplies and budget-friendly food. Of course, there are some products at dollar stores that you have to be careful about.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported a recall of certain items sold by Family Dollar, so if you’ve recently purchased anything from one of their stores, take a look around the house.
Why Was the Recall Issued?
Family Dollar issued a recall because rodents were found at one of its distribution centers. The presence of rodents in and around certain items poses a risk of salmonella, which can cause fever and diarrhea in healthy people, and be life-threatening for infants, the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.
While no cases of illness have been reported yet, Family Dollar issued the recall as a precaution.
How Do I Know If I Bought a Recalled Product?
Family Dollar Distribution Center 202 in Arkansas shipped products to hundreds of stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee. A full list of the stores can be found on the FDA website. The recall applies to FDA-regulated products distributed after January 1, 2021, including all drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, dietary supplements, food products and pet food.
Family Dollar is also asking affected stores to stop sales of any recalled products.
Products shipped directly to the stores by distributors or manufacturers, like frozen and refrigerated products, are not part of the recall. Anything purchased from stores other than the items listed should not be included in the recall.
