This Frozen Vegetable Is Getting Recalled. Do You Have It?
Time to check your freezer!
Now that the romaine lettuce recall has officially come to a close, theres now another vegetable to worry about: Broccoli. Specifically, the broccoli that comes in a bag in the frozen food section of your grocery store.
On May 21, 2018, Stop & Shop announced a recall of their private branded frozen broccoli. They are specifically recalling their Broccoli Cuts 16 oz. bags that have a Best By date of March 15, 2020. This frozen broccoli was tested positive for the germ Listeria monocytogenes(the stuff that causes harmful bacterial infections) by the State of CT Department of Consumer Protection Food & Standards.
Not sure if your broccoli is safe or not? You can look for the UPC code (underneath the barcode on the bag) which should have the number 068826700926. If the number matches, you should return the broccoli immediately to Stop & Shop (or Giant Foods) for a full refund. And if you have additional questions, feel free to call Stop & Shop at 1-800-767-7772.
What if I already ate the broccoli
Talk to your doctor immediately. Even though you may not experience any differences right after consuming this product, it does take a few weeks (even up to 70 days) for symptoms to come about. It typically starts with fever and diarrhea, along with other flu-like symptoms. Listeria is a serious infection that is caused by germ contamination on food.
Recalls are important to note
Even though our food providers take extra caution to ensure the food we are eating is safe, its important to keep up with whats going on by the Food and Drug Administration (which you can easily do over on Twitter). They let the public know of any foods or products are currently being recalled, while also providing information on how to return that product and get your money back.
