Vegetable Recall Hits Walmart, Target and More Due to Listeria Risk
Maybe skip the salad with dinner tonight. You'll want to keep an eye on this vegetable recall.
Batten down your fridge doors, because there’s another recall on the rise. Healthy snacks have been in the hot seat lately, from frozen raspberries contaminated with hepatitis A to fresh apples carrying traces of listeria. Now, your salad may not be as wholesome as it seems. A vegetable recall is rocking major grocery chains, like Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s and more.
This one comes from Mann Packing Co., who issued the voluntary recall on November 3 due to the presence of listeria in packaged vegetables. The recall affects retailers nationwide in the U.S. and Canada. Find the FDA statement here.

This major recall has multiple products involved. Mixed and frozen vegetables are included as well as snack trays, salad blends and sides. Brands named in the vegetable recall include Del Monte, H-E-B, Hungryroot, Kroger Organic, Mann’s, Marketside, O Organics, Signature Farms, Sysco and Trader Joe’s. Thus far, no illnesses have been reported in relation with this recall. Mann Packing issued the warning out of an abundance of caution, urging consumers to dispose of any recalled product that’s snooping around in the fridge. Mann Packing still hasn’t identified the source of the contaminant, but the FDA is investigating the issue right now.
How do I know if I have one of these products?
Luckily, it’s not too tough to determine whether or not you’ve got some risky vegetables. All of the recalled products have a “Best If Enjoyed By” date between October 11, 2019 and November 16, 2019. Mann Packing also released a complete list of UPC codes to help catch any baddies in the crisper drawer. If you’re on the fence about tonight’s side salad, take a look at this product list.
I have one of these products! What should I do with it?
Do not consume these products under any circumstances. Even if you think your package is okay, it’s not worth the gamble. Mann Packing and the FDA warn consumers to throw out products named in the vegetable recall immediately.

How can I avoid getting listeria?
First, heed the warnings of recalls whenever they appear. When buying milks and soft cheeses, make sure the package emphasizes the word “pasteurized.” If it’s nowhere to be found, you may want to leave it out of your cart.
Sealed meats like cold cuts and hot dogs should only be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Keep your refrigerator at 40° F or lower, too. You can find the rest of our listeria tips here.
