Burritos, tiramisu and late-night chicken quesadillas top GrubHub's list of food delivery trends for 2022
We all have a favorite delivery order, and if you’re like us, it’s probably something like a burrito, quesadilla, or even tiramisu. If these dishes were on your to-go orders this year, you’re not alone. GrubHub just released its annual retrospective look at the biggest national ordering trends and eating habits of the year called 2022 Delivered and found these dishes and more topping the lists of Americans’ food delivery orders in 2022.
GrubHub analyzed millions of orders from 2022 and noted that “casual Friday was every day. Staying in with a cold beer was cooler than going out, hoodies always went under blazers and layering didn’t just happen in our wardrobes; it happened on our plates (topped with ketchup, or perhaps ranch).”
Given that trend, it makes sense that the burrito—the hand-held, make-it-your-way dish that’s wrapped in a warm, cozy tortilla—would be the most popular food delivery choice for both lunch and dinner. In fact, the burrito jumped from number 8 last year all the way to the top spot, with 4 million orders in 2022.
When it came to late-night food, the city of Boston (perhaps because of its large college student population) had the most orders. Overall, chicken quesadillas were the go-to order when food cravings hit late at night. As for America’s sweet tooth, the most-ordered dessert for 2022 was tiramisu, followed close behind by baklava. Meanwhile, the biggest single order of the year on GrubHub was 60 pizzas!
