The Zombie Frappuccino is Coming to Starbucks. Here’s What You Should Know.
Starbucks is rumored to be concocting a frightfully good treat for this Halloween season. Do you dare try it?
The line at your local Starbucks might be longer in the coming days—and the shambling, Walking Dead-like throngs in the early morning hours could resemble zombies for a different reason.
Rumor has it the coffee chain will be introducing a new drink for a very limited run. Seems baristas and java aficionados have been flocking to social media to share news of an impending Zombie Frappuccino invasion—one that takes all the sugary goodness of a Frappuccino and, well, zombifies it. (Like your mocha in many forms? We’ve got recipes for you.)
Photos of an acid-green beverage topped with a pink whipped cream swirl (resembling—you guessed it!—brains) have been making the rounds on social media, purportedly coming from Starbucks test locations. And that alone is enough to crank up the excitement of the caffeinated.

If you recall, back in April, the coffee-drinking world lost its collective mind when Starbucks introduced the Unicorn Frappuccino, a tart, tangy and sweet concoction that was topped with glittery powder. Was it Mango? Blueberry? Raspberry? We’re not sure—and neither were the hordes of people that rushed the counters to take selfies with the fluffy drink. If the appeal of that limited run is any indication—a number of outlets ran out of the fixings, to the dismay of unicorn seekers—this zombie invasion might just break the Internet.
In 2014, Starbucks rolled out a green tea Franken Frappuccino (in 2014); in 2015 and ’16, it was the Frappula—a white chocolate and mocha concoction featuring a rim of raspberry syrup that resembled blood.
As for Starbucks, the company is playing it coy. When People magazine reached out for a comment, a spokesperson had this to say about the potential for a Zombie Frappuccino promotion: “Our Halloween plans are still under [mummy] wraps, but we look forward to sharing more details with the living soon.”
Still, all signs point to a spooktacular surprise from the coffeemaker beginning on October 26. While the Pumpkin Spice Latte is still king of the hill when it comes to autumn sales, a Zombie Frappuccino could dethrone it during Halloween.
And if the Zombie Frappuccino does come to (undead) life, we suggest pairing it with one of our reader-submitted Halloween recipes—perhaps some Eyeball Cookies or Sugar Ghost Cupcakes. We hear Frankenguac goes well with everything…including Zombie refreshments. And braaaaaains (made of whipped cream, of course).
