You Need to Try This Tortilla Wrap Hack From TikTok
You'll never make a wrap the same way again.
When it comes to quick and easy kitchen tricks, there’s no better place to turn to on the internet than TikTok. Whether it’s bringing stained food containers back to life or adding this secret ingredient to mashed potatoes, this social media app is full of tips for upping your kitchen game.
So, when TikTok went ablaze with a tortilla wrap hack, we knew we needed to try it out.
What’s the Wrap Hack?
In the viral tortilla trend videos, which have over 3.7 billion combined views, Tiktokers cut and fold stuffed tortillas that are then toasted in a skillet or panini press for a hand-held snack. This wrap method is especially convenient for those on the go as the folds prevent the hot fillings from spilling out, which can happen with normal sandwich wraps or quesadillas.
Plus, the trend ensures that you’ll get a perfect bite of fillings every time.
How to Make a TikTok Tortilla Wrap
- 1 fajita or burrito-sized tortilla
- 1 slice cheddar cheese
- 1 scrambled egg
- Crumbled breakfast sausage, cooked
- Hash browns, cooked
- Panini press, skillet or electric griddle
Step 1: Cut the tortilla
To begin, cook and assemble your fillings. Then, place your tortilla on a cutting board and make a cut from the middle of the tortilla to the edge closest to you.
Step 2: Add fillings
Starting in the bottom-left corner and working clockwise, add your cheese, scrambled egg, breakfast sausage and hash browns to their own quarter of the tortilla.
Editor’s tip: If you’re using delicate ingredients that are sensitive to heat, like lettuce or dairy-based sauces, be sure to add them to the bottom-left quarter of the tortilla. This quarter is the most protected from heat when cooking, so you won’t end up with soggy greens or curdled sauce.
Step 3: Fold
Grab the bottom-left corner of the tortilla and fold it up, sandwiching the cheese and eggs. Then, flip the top-left corner of the tortilla over to the right, and then fold that down. When done, your tortilla should be triangle-shaped, with all of the fillings stacked on top of each other.
Editor’s tip: Not getting clean folds? Try adding a bit less filling next time. Overstuffing your tortilla can make it difficult to fold the ingredient layers.
Step 4: Toast
Heat a skillet, panini press or electric griddle to medium heat and toast your folded tortilla until it has browned and the fillings are hot. If you’re using a skillet or griddle, make sure to give the tortilla a flip halfway through cooking.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Once sufficiently toasted, remove your wrap and give it a minute or two to cool. Then, dig in!
Fillings for Your Tortilla Wrap
This example is for a breakfast wrap, but that doesn’t mean those are the only fillings you can use. Here are some of our favorite filling combos that you should try:
- Club: mayo, avocado, shredded lettuce, bacon, deli turkey, deli ham, cheddar and swiss cheese.
- Charcuterie: arugula, apricot jam, thin apple slices, prosciutto and sliced brie.
- Pizza: pizza sauce, mini pepperoni, sliced pepper and onion, dried Italian herbs and mozzarella cheese.
- Bistro: spinach, roasted red pepper, herbed goat cheese and cooked sliced steak.
- Chocolate-covered fruit: sweetened mascarpone cheese, fresh raspberries, fresh banana slices, Nutella and powdered sugar.
