If you love pizza (and c’mon, who doesn’t?) you need to visit a pizza farm. This locavore trend is gaining traction across the country, encouraging patrons to visit a neighborhood farm and enjoy a pie made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. We visited a pizza farm last summer to get the full scoop, and now we’re excited to share our top pizza farm picks with you. Enjoy—and save us a slice!
Seal Cove Farm
If you’ve ever wanted to hang out with a herd of cuddly goats while noshing on the best pizza in town, head to Seal Cove Farm. This New England destination has been making goat cheese since 1981. And every Friday through Sunday, May through October, you’ll find pies decorated with feta, chevre and “goateroni”—plus farm-fresh veggies. Don’t miss these other wicked good New England eats.
Old School Farm
Eat like a local at Old School Farm. After all, every ingredient is grown on-site or sourced from a nearby creamery. The farm’s woodlot even powers the pizza oven! Heritage Prairie Farm
Pizza night at Heritage Prairie is so popular, you need a reservation to get in. But once you get to the farm, enjoy a number of wood-fired pies sourced with creative ingredients—like summer squash and corn, wild mushrooms and even beets. Pizza night occurs on specific Wednesdays throughout the summer.
If you already have a designated pizza night in your family’s dinner rotation, swap out the delivery joint for Millsap Farms‘ pizza club. This Thursday night event in the Mid-South requires reservations—but the buffet-style spread of pies made with local ingredients is well worth the wait. Diehard pizza fans can enroll in the farm’s season pass that gives you access to pizza nights all season long.
Luna Valley Farm
If you’re a serious pizza lover, consider joining Luna Valley Farm’s pizza CSA program. This version of community supported agriculture gives the farm the capital it needs to get started in the spring, then rewards you with pizza all summer long. You can also purchase single pies on pizza Fridays, April through October.
Good Roots Farm and Gardens
Brookings, South Dakota
Keep it casual at Good Roots Farm and Gardens. This Midwest pizza night—held on the last Sunday of June, July, August and September—features handcrafted pies with freshly harvested toppings. Feel free to BYOB—and tote along some lawn games, too—then get ready to kick back and relax.
A to Z Produce and Bakery
“Made where it’s grown since 1998.” Or at least that’s the motto of A to Z Produce and Bakery’s pizza night. This Wisconsin farm hosts guests on Tuesday nights, from early May to late October. While you’re there, pick up a loaf of artisanal bread, too—the wheat is grown and ground on-site!
Full Belly Farm
You’ll have a full belly after visiting Full Belly Farm—that’s for sure. The West Coast farm’s monthly pizza nights—from May through September—include a menu of pizza, salads and farm-fresh homemade ice cream. Bring a picnic blanket and get ready to dig in!
Red Barn Farm
A taste of fresh, handmade pizza (they even have a cauliflower crust!) isn’t all Red Barn Farm has to offer. Most pizza nights—held on Wednesdays throughout the summer—feature local artists, too. Listen to music while you eat or try your hand at painting or crafting. Either way, it’s guaranteed to be a good time.
Stoney Acres Farm
All of the ingredients at Stoney Acres Farm are hyper-local. Wheat for the crust, tomatoes for the sauce, meat and veggie toppings—everything’s grown on the farm. (Except for the cheese, which comes from creameries across the Dairy State). Check out a pizza night on Fridays and Saturdays, April through November.
Come hungry to Geyer’s Oven—all-you-can-eat ‘za is served on the second and fourth Thursdays of each summer month.
