Built-Ins Are Back

According to interior designer and Delta Design Trust member Justina Blakeney, space-saving innovations will be the big thing in 2020.

“Working to create homes that are smart on space and have unique pieces that no one else has, I see a rise in built-in furniture (or pieces built to look like built-ins),” says Blakeney. Check out these roll-out cabinet drawers you can build yourself.

Pantone Blue is the Home Decor Hue

Pantone’s color of the year is a classic blue, and it only makes sense that interior design is incorporating this color trend. Expect kitchen designs to welcome the color. Paris designer Anne-Laure Dubois incorporates it as the base of this kitchen counter as a means to offset wood floors and white walls. By the way, you shouldn’t keep these items on your kitchen counter.

Health and Wellness Take Center Stage

Blakeney says well-being will be center stage in homes like never before. “I see it taking shape,” she says, “through everything from inviting more natural light and fresh air into the home through larger windows, skylights and creating better flow between the indoors and outdoors, to putting a premium on things like luxurious baths and showers for enhancing the self-care routine.” These are our best homemade beauty recipes.

Smart Faucets Are the Smart Choice

There’s no denying the importance of hygiene for lowering your chances of getting sick. Blakeney sees a rise in touch-free smart faucets, like the Delta Faucet’s VoiceIQ technology faucets, to stave off spreading germs via faucet handles. Check out more amazing home automation products.

High Contrast Design Will Shine

“In 2020 high contrast is the name of the game—whether it’s a black chair with white legs or a bold trim or door color that pops against a more neutral wall,” says Carleen Laronn of The Model Home.

The idea behind the trend is to create eye-catching spaces. “Take contrast in a different direction: When working with furniture, art or textiles, mix modern and vintage pieces to create a fun juxtaposition,” says Laronn. This is what your home decor reveals about you.

Warm Earth Tones for Pops of Color

Cool tones have had their moment. Home design trends for 2020 include a shift to warm colors, saturated hues and jewel tones that make subtle pops on tiles, the sofa, kitchen cabinetry and walls. The idea is to find more lively hues that still look natural. These are the best home decor accounts on Instagram.

Patterned Everything

This year, the rules are meant to be broken. Layered patterns are a far cry from millennial-minimalism, and that’s exactly the point. The trend will take over tabletop and textiles designs, with a thematic color used to fuse various patterns. Speaking of patterns, these vintage Pyrex patterns will take you back.
