Bananas Foster Sauce Tips
Can I make bananas Foster sauce ahead of time?
Unlike a more traditional bananas Foster recipe, you can make this sauce ahead of time! Just skip adding the fresh bananas until you're ready to serve.
What can you substitute for rum extract in bananas Foster sauce?
If you don't have any rum extract on hand, you can substitute it for the real thing! For this bananas Foster recipe, we recommending using a 1/2 teaspoon of dark rum. Got extra rum extract on hand? Put it to good use with these recipes that use rum extract.

it comes together quickly and easily. Traditionally, the dish is finished with rum and then ignited to burn off the alcohol. This recipe calls for extract, but you definitely can do it the other way if you chose. You can serve this over ice cream, but we had it over pancakes. I made the pancakes first and then kept them warm in the oven while I made the bananas.

Made this for my husband and I instead of dinner since we'd had a large lunch much earlier. It was very good. I cut the recipe in half so had to guess a bit at measurement and used Redi-Whip rather than heavy whipping cream. Although we definitely enjoyed this I'd like to try the Classic recipe next using the liquors to better judge the difference. Definitely recommend for a special occasion and would be excellent for children since it uses the rum extract rather than the alcohol.

I used fresh ground nutmeg, half & half in place of the whipping cream, used 1 tablespoon of dark rum in place of the extract, and added a little vanilla. I sliced the bananas instead and we served the bananas foster over Oat Pancakes. Delicious!
