Beef Noodle Bake

My grandmother brought this recipe with her from Scotland. I like to make it for church suppers and picnics. —Evelyne Olechnowicz, Valencia, Pennsylvania

This has been a go to recipe for my family for years. After a while, I adapted a few things. I now use medium egg noodles and always add up to a can of tomato paste instead of some of the tomato sauce. It just has more depth. Somerimes pizza seasoning or Italian seasoning goes in. I will even use up any pasta sauce that might be left in a jar in the fridge. I'd rather throw it in this casserole then in the garbage! Lastly, out of sheer laziness, I stopped layering and my family never noticed. I gave this recipe to my mom with the paste included in the ingredient list. When I realized it was layered, I was actually surprised as it had been so many years since I bothered. This is definitely a keeper whether you stick to it as written or adapt to your taste.

This is such a delicious and rich casserole. I did increase quantity of cream cheese to 8 ounces and used two jars of marinara sauce instead of the canned tomato sauce. I also added fresh garlic in with the onion instead of using garlic salt. We've had many baked pasta dishes, but loved the egg noodles in this one and how the beef and cheese mixtures are combined and layered. Total comfort food. Keeping this handy!

I made this twice. The first time, it was pretty bland without a lot of flavor. I liked it OK, but my husband wasn't a fan. I only made it the second time because it was something quick and easy with ingredients I had on hand. I did have to add quite a bit of extra seasonings. I probably won't make it again.

Too many noodles for a 13x9 inch pan. Sort of bland.

made some changes.cooked the meat then drained it. i had to add many seasonings to make it taste right. this is a basic bolognese sauce. on top of that i needed to add Prego sauce to the seasoning. I also added sherry. seasonings i added were oregano, thyme, pepper, garlic, parsley and bay.
