Cheeseburger Macaroni Skillet

This is the ultimate simple and fulfilling dinner that uses items I typically have in my cupboard. It's so easy to prepare and cooking all in one skillet makes it a snap for clean up. —Juli Meyers, Hinesville, Georgia

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 8 ounces uncooked whole wheat elbow macaroni
  • 3 cups reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 3/4 cup fat-free milk
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Montreal steak seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • Minced chives


  • In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain.
  • Stir in macaroni, broth, milk, ketchup, steak seasoning, mustard and onion powder; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 10-15 minutes or until macaroni is tender. Stir in cheese until melted. Sprinkle with chives.

    I have a tendency to follow recipes online, very closely, the first time I try to make them so that's what I did with this on, much to my surprise I even had Montreal steak seasoning(?). I had 3 cups of broth and the milk measured out and I gotta admit, I was quite skeptical that all that broth was going to get absorbed/dissipate appropriately but those measurements were perfect. This turned out exactly as I hoped and although some might say its bland, we would describe the flavors as delicate and subtle. We thought it was delicious and I won't change a thing when I make it again. Paired with a salad it felt like a nice home cooked, well rounded meal.

    Made this last night. Definitely like that it was a quick one pot meal. Only used 2 cups of beef broth, (low sodium). Lacked some flavor, maybe because of the low sodium beef. Will definitely give it a try with additional seasonings.

    This is a nice quick dinner to have ready in no time. I didn't have milk and just used the beef broth and it was creamy on it's own. It is a recipe that can be easily adjusted with additional flavors if you like-I added Worchestershire, garlic powder. For those that don't care for a heavy tomato sauce based dish, this is a great alternative that is easily adaptable. Will make again, thank you!

    I had no steak seasoning but I added 2 dabs of Worcestershire sauce and voila. It's a big hit with the fam.

    I changed the liquid to 1.5 cup of broth and 1.5 cup milk. Added onion, mushroom, and green pepper. Garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce, kept the rest the same.
