Cheeseburger Stuffed Pasta Shells

Ingredients

  • 18 uncooked jumbo pasta shells
  • 1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup prepared mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • Optional toppings: Shredded lettuce, and chopped pickles and tomatoes

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse in cold water; drain again.
  • Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium-high heat until beef is no longer pink, 6-8 minutes, breaking beef into crumbles; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard and pepper until blended. Stir in 3/4 cup shredded cheese.
  • Spoon about 2 tablespoons filling into each shell. Place in a greased 11x7-in. baking dish.
  • Bake, covered, until heated through, 12-15 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; bake, uncovered, until cheese is melted, about 5 minutes. If desired, serve with optional toppings.
  • Freeze option: Cool unbaked casserole; cover and freeze. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350°. Cover casserole with foil; bake as directed, increasing time as necessary to heat through and for a thermometer inserted in center to read 165°. If desired, serve with optional toppings.

    Great recipe. Made it twice already. Did omit the "condiments" the second time I made it. Liked it much better. It is on my husbands "favorite" list!

    This is an awesome recipe. My family loved it. I did add less mustard and I topped it with bacon, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeño, pickles and onion. I will definitely make this again

    Everyone enjoyed this recipe, but we all concluded that there was just too much mustard in it for us. I'll cut back on it next time, and I think it will be perfect! I think it would also be fun to buy smaller sized shells and just turn this into a quick casserole. No need to stuff the shells then. Just mix it all up and bake!

    This was super easy to make but for my family it was just too much mustard for us. Not being a fan of the condiment it was still good. I think next time I wouldn’t put the mustard in and try to add some bacon!

    This is a delicious recipe. I used 20 ounces of ground turkey instead burger and chili sauce instad of ketchup. I served them atop a garden salad. Will make again, but will reduce the mustard a little.

    This recipe completely lives up to the description. I recommend draining the beef well, and perhaps using a leaner ground beef, because there is a lot of cheese! Adjust the ketchup and mustard balance to match what your family likes on a cheeseburger, and serve with a green salad, perhaps dressed with thousand island dressing and burger toppings (pickles, tomatoes, onions, bacon bits). I served 2 shells for a "lady" portion, 3 for a hungry man.

    This is a delicious recipe but I will cut back on the mustard next time. Regardless, we cleaned our plates. It is easy to prepare but filling the shells can be a tad messy. Delicious! We will be having this again. Volunteer Field Editor
