Cherry Chewbilees
This is a good dish to carry to potlucks and parties. It's a hit at home, too - my husband rates it as one of his favorite desserts. —Debbi Smith, Crossett, Arkansas

I made this as written, except I halved it and used an 8 x 8 pan. If I made it again, I would double the cream cheese layer because we didn't even taste that layer. It came out looking very nice and it tasted fine but I was really disappointed in the cherries overwhelming the cream cheese.
I've been making this with my family for over 20 years. It's something that we have to have at Christmas time, we aren't big cherry people so my mom uses strawberry glaze and we love it that way!
These bars are wonderful!! A favorite with the family!!
this is great! Only change I made was used pecans instead of walnuts. The next time I made it I toasted the coconut and I think I liked that just a bit better, though both were great. Hubby loved it too
Made the Cherry Chewbilees for a Potluck dinner tonight and not a bit left. Very easy, ingrediates I always have on hand, and delicious! I did add an extra cream cheese, sugar and egg (just half the exact receipt) to make the filling a little thicker...you can never have too much cream cheese! Made in a brownie pan with the removable sides, so when presented, the 3 layers were very pretty. Great receipt, thanks so much for posting it!
I have made these a few times and they are delicious and easy.
I made these bars but the cooking times seem to be way off. First, the cheesecake filling did not set up in the 15 minutes of time. This is the first time I made this so I wan't sure if it was supposed to be set and I went ahead and put the cherry pie filling on top anyway. It says spread it but I wasn't able to spread because the cheesecake layer was so soft and liquidy. I baked it the next 15 minutes after and it was still quite jiggly and definitely not set. I baked for at least 10-12 additional minutes more than was specified stopping to check every so often. The edges of the dessert were set and could be removed into a bar but the middle was still not set. We scooped it on a plate and ate with a fork. Tasted good. I followed this recipe exactly. Something isn't right with this but I reviewed it over and over and I did what it said.
I also made this desert for a bible study at my home. Everyone liked it. One friend said it was an explosion of flavor on his tounge. Great desert, like cherry cheese cake in a pan. Yum!
I absolutely loved these bars....So did the kids so that makes it a win win for me.
