In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar, until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in pudding mix and vanilla. Combine flour and baking soda; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts (dough will be stiff).
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
Editor's Note: One 3.9-ounce package of instant chocolate pudding mix may be substituted for the vanilla pudding mix.

I loved the addition of the vanilla pudding. What a unique twist to chocolate chip cookies. Delicious recipe!

I have been making these cookies since 1995...found the recipe in a small paperback cookbook. I use white chocolate pudding or French vanilla pudding and use mini chocolate chips. My daughter used chocolate pudding and butterscotch chips. I also use the small cookie scoop from Pampered Chef and will get about 90 cookies. When my kids were younger, I used to make these cookies 2-3 times a week. Great recipe!!!

This is my second review of these cookies. I've made them many times. I've used combinations of different flavored chips but the constant is a bit.more vanilla. Another tip is to chill as stated and not to overbake them. I recently made them using a combination of semi sweet, dark and white chips. I placed a few pieces of sea salt on top before I baked them. This was a tip from a very experienced cook. He was right. The sea salt added an extra flavor dimension and a bit of texture. I shared these with neighbors and every one of them wanted this recipe. I make up a double batch and they don't last. Super yummy.

soo good, nice chewy cookie. I substituted M&Ms for the chocolate chips but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Of note: we only got 5 dozen modestly sized cookies which is only about half of what it stated the recipe yielded so this was the only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars. (I also took a pic to post seeing as there wasn't one but cannot figure how to add it :/) But would definitely make these again, maybe even taking other posters suggestions and playing with the flavor of pudding and different add ins.

I have made these many times and everyone has loved them. I do not make the regular choc. chip cookies any more. They are soft and you cannot eat just one.
