Chewy Peanut Butter Pan Squares
With seven of us in our family, including two teenage boys, these peanut butter squares never last long! It's hard to believe how simple they are to prepare. —Deb DeChant, Milan, Ohio

Easy to make and quite tasty. I might reduce the vanilla extract next time as I can taste it slightly (could also be the taste of pb mixed with sugar). My oven runs hot so these were cooked perfectly at 24 minutes.
I have always loved the Taste of Home magazines and cookbooks, but it seems that the website has fallen to the same low level of most internet recipe pages. If I could give this recipe negative stars, I would. I agree with the other posters who have stated that the ratios and chemistry are totally off. There is TOO MUCH FAT. Between the peanut butter and then the additional butter, this is a dense brick of garbage. The sugar does not mix well w/ the batter and ended up crystalizing and rising the the top. So awful. This recipe needs more flour, less sugar, and less (no) butter. Blech.

while the flavor was o.k., the consistency was awful. I see where they got their name. talk about chewy. they were so chewy and dense, they practically stuck to our teeth. made exactly as written. would not make again and definitely would not recommend.
Thanks for the recipe. How convenient! My version of these also has peanut butter icing.
Delicious! I used whole wheat flour, and reduced the sugar to 1 1/4 cups. They were still a bit sweet for my taste, and would probably be good with one cup. I also sprinkled about 1/2 cup chocolate chips over the top before baking.
1 star because I like to bake. I found the recipe rather hard to prepare and had a gut feeling when I found this recipe they would not turn out right. It calls for way too much sugar, I found it to be too sweet, The timing was not right ,Mine burned and, way too sweet and seems like the recipe could use one more cup of flour and some baking powder or baking soda to help the mix rise. The picture above is a joke, mine were quite thin and I did use the right size pan too. I have used taste of home recipes before and 99.9% of them are nasty.Followed the directions, like preheat oven and once baked, the mixture stuck to the pan that was already greased.I do not like the Nutritional Facts as there is no Sugar info, Like, How many grams? I think I will avoid taste of home as their recipes are always on the nasty side and not very thorough, Does Taste of Home test these recipes to be sure the lousy ones can go in the trash?
They were great... I will make them again :-)
My family and I really liked these. They were easy to make with ingredients that I have on hand 99% of the time and they tasted great. I agree with others that the peanut butter taste is mild, but I actually don't like an overwhelming taste of PB, so for me, they were perfect!!!!!
So easy. Perfect for little ones to help with in the kitchen. And they turn out chewy and yummy. Perfect for a weeknight dessert when you have almost no time!
