Cinnamon Hard Candy
My Amish aunt made dozens of these spicy red squares for holiday gatherings when I was a tot. I'd always look for them glowing among the other candies she'd carry in! Nowadays, I stir up her recipe for my family.

This tastes good, is so easy to make and has turned out every time I've made it over the years. I use other flavorings like spearmint, root beer, and butterscotch and they are also good.

You can get the cinnamon oil at walmart in the greeting card section. Also at any craft store, Hobby Lobby or Michaels or whatever you can get to. This recipe was delicious and easy and the kids were amazed that Mom actually made homemade candy. I didn't let them know how easy it was. I also made watermelon and root beer flavors, they were good but not as good as the cinnamon. Still everyone's favorite.
This is my "go to" recipe every Christmas! I highly discourage using extract (it contains alcohol and very little flavor, making for an inferior end product) as some mentioned, finding the oil is worth the wait. Most pharmacies (some keep it in stock, just call around) and whole food stores can order cinnamon oil and have it in a day or two. LOVE THIS RECIPE!!
I used extract instead of oil because I could not find it in my store. Thought I'd give the extract a try anyway. There is a very little hint of cinnamon. My advise is to double or triple the amount of extract if that is what you are using. Wish I could of found the oil, but thanks to Christmas being a week away I was unable to today. Maybe in a few days.
This will be my first time making hard candy my girl friend use to make it every christmas !, thought I would give it a try wish me luck
I have made this candy every year for the last 2 years, it is a good recipe , I always bring it to the hard crack stage on my candy thermometer , it always comes out right, I love it...
This is a Christmas favorite for our family! My sister-in-love sent this recipe in years ago. I'll always remember the first time I had a piece of it. YUM!!
