Contest-Winning Cajun Cabbage
Looking for a different treatment for cabbage? Try this spicy cheese-topped dish that I adapted from a friend's recipe. I added a little of this and that until it tasted the way I wanted. Not only do my husband and kids like it, I get rave reviews when I make it for company or church functions. —Bobbie Soileau, Opelousas, Louisiana

It was good, not too spicy, I would say just right. I have another recipe that I use for "Unstuffed Cabbage" which I think is actually better as it has more flavor. I'm not saying that I would never make this recipe again...I think I might like my recipe better.
This was good. It reminded me of a deconstructed cabbage roll with cheese. It was flovorful and easy to put together. I recommend using a deep dish as the deeper it is the more cabbage will fit on top.
While I liked all of the ingredients in the casserole, the flavor combination turned out to be rather bland. I think I would add more seasoning next time- if I were to make it again which I’m not sure I would. I use pepper jack cheese instead of the Colby and Sriracha for the hot pepper sauce. It’s still didn’t have much flavor just tasted like it was missing something. I think I’m going to add some garlic chili sauce to the leftovers and use it as a filling for lettuce wraps and see if that improves it. It was OK but I’m not sure I would make it again .
So Good!! Thank you Rebelwithoutaclue for suggesting precooking cabbage. However, I chose not to use a bath towel because I did not want to release detergent, fabric softener, bleach into the cabbage. Instead, I chopped the cabbage and microwaved it for 3 min. covered. I added 1 Tbsp vinegar to the meat mixture. Wonderful recipe
If you want to avoid crunchy cabbage and cut your cooking time, try this trick. Remove the outer thick leaves and core the cabbage. Wrap cabbage in a small bath towel and microwave for 5 min.
When I first read the recipe I thought it sounded strange, with the cabbage and cheese on top. But I made it and loved it. Have made it a second time I liked it so much. Thanks for sharing.

I was out of white pepper, so didn't add that, and due to comments the dish was a little hot, only used 1/4 tsp. of the other peppers, and added 3 long squirts of siracha sauce, and did not find the dish too hot. I baked the dish at 350 for 1 hour, 20 minutes, and the cabbage was still too crunchy. We went ahead and ate it crunchy. I increased the oven temperature to 375 and cooked the casserole for an additional 30 minutes, and it was fine after that. Usually, my oven cooks a recipe in the time called for; this was unusual. I thought the dish was okay, nothing special, but my husband thought it was unusually good and wants me to add it to our "keeper" recipes.
Quick and easy recipe with some kick. I was nervous about the cabbage on top, but it's great. With 3 kinds of pepper, I didn't know how spicy it would be so I did 1/4 tsp of each which was plenty of heat for our tastes. Leftovers tasted good too.
This was definitely delicious. Next time I’m going to mix the cabbage in with the hamburger mixture. It looked boring when it came out of the oven.
