Country White Bread
Anytime is the right time for a comforting slice of homemade bread. These loaves are especially nice since the crust stays so tender. This white bread recipe is my husband Nick's favorite. He makes most of the bread at our house. —Joanne Shew Chuk, St. Benedict, Saskatchewan

I know nothing about making bread . I followed this recipe exactly and it came out awesome ! I was very happy . ??
For Mariann, whose bread came out like bricks, possibly you added too much flour. Or you might not have kneaded the dough long enough. Six to eight minutes (which seems to be the standard for TOH yeast breads) isn't always enough. When kneading bread dough, don't go by the clock; go by what the dough feels like. It's better to overknead than underknead. Lastly, you might not have allowed the dough to rise long enough. These are all factors that are critical to making good bread.. .

What went wrong, my loafs came out like bricks. Yeast is in date, what could I have done?
I just made this today, I was hesitant because I was using my bread machine, cut the recipe in half, and it came out great! My son already had two slices, and loved it. Did not make any substitutions to the ingredients.

Perfection! I have been trying other white bread recipes and was not satisfied. When I made this bread, I knew I need look no longer. It's perfect! Wonderful flavor, slices nicely --no need to look any further. It will be my go-to recipe! Thank you!

Reviewing again because you didn't post my full review? I made this bread today and followed the recipe exactly. It made big loaves, that are light and have a wonderful flavor. Very easy to make, it will be my go-to recipe for white bread. I only wish there was an option to post a picture to show how beautiful it turned out.
Homemade breads make excellent sandwich breads, as long as they don't crumble easily or fall apart. One trick to cutting homemade bread is to slice it from the bottom or sides, NOT the top so you're not squishing the bread! Enjoy.
