Cranberry Sauce

I turn to this recipe frequently because I can prepare it a day ahead—it's so convenient when company's coming. And with only a trace of fat, the fruity side dish is nutritious and delicious.—Nancy Zimmerman, Cape May Court House, New Jersey

  • 1 package (12 ounces) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cranberry-raspberry juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice


  • Place cranberries, sugar and cranberry-raspberry juice in a large saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, until berries pop, 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat; stir in lemon juice. Transfer to a bowl; cool slightly. Refrigerate, covered, until cold.

    I like this w/o the lemon juice. Made it the regular recipe and then using this recipe. Lemon juice makes it too tart for me. I really like cranberries and like using the cranberry-raspberry juice.

    This is a great basic recipe. I've followed it exactly with excellent and reliable results, and I've used it a starting point for my own versions (using different juices).

    I never really liked cranberry sauce until I tried this recipe from scratch... It has the perfect amount of sweetness.

    I have always hated cranberry sauce from a can. It tastes good but bad texture and looks rather unappealing. This recipe was so fast, easy, and inexpensive I can't imagine why anyone would ever buy canned cranberry sauce again. My entire family loved this, it was so good! It had a great texture with some cranberries still slightly intact, overall delicious!

    So simple to make and very tasty. There is a hint of raspberry and it's not too sweet like so many store bought varieties.
