Dad’s Creamed Peas & Pearl Onions

When I was growing up, it was a family tradition to make creamed peas with pearl onions for every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. My dad would not be a happy camper if he didn't see this dish on the table. It was his favorite! I made it for my own family while our kids were growing up; my daughter now makes this dish for her family. —Nancy Heishman, Las Vegas, Nevada

Delicious! I cut this recipe in half b/c I was only serving three. I used 12 oz bad of peas, almost half a bag of (12 oz) pearl onions. I did use the full amount of seasoning and added rosemary. I used One 1/4 cup sourcream and 2 tablespoons cream. It was really good. I served with homemade fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and melon. I usually make my fried chicken with greens (collard or mustard) but my husband hates greens and really liked these peas.

This is a very nice side dish. Made it for Christmas. Only used three cups of peas. Substituted sausage crumbled (frozen), add them in with the main seven ingredients. Also not a big fan of sour cream, but I did have some in the house, so I used half sour cream and half regular cream. Turned out great. Made it in advance and warmed up later in a 350 oven for a little over 20 minutes. Thank you for sharing.

This recipe is so delicious! I made this for a Memorial Day cookout, and there was almost nothing left of it after everyone ate their fill. The only trouble I had was finding the frozen pearl onions, but wow are they delicious. It was worth heading to a second store to find them. I highly recommend this and am planning to make it again.
