"This is a nice change from the traditional blondie, especially for those who crave the combo of orange and chocolate," writes Kerri Pelz from Hendersonville, North Carolina. "An 8-inch loaf pan makes the perfect amount for two to snack on!"

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons beaten egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, optional

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, orange zest and extracts. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts if desired.
  2. Spread into an 8x4-in. loaf pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
