Fried Apple Tips
What's the best apple for cooking?
We think Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Empire, Braeburn and Cortland apples are some of the
best apples for cooking. They're hard to beat because they are firm and tend to hold their shape when cooked. Plus, they're easy to find in most grocery stores.
Can you freeze fried apples?
Yes, you can freeze fried apples! After preparing the fried apples, let cool them completely, then place in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 3 to 6 months. To use, thaw in the refrigerator and warm in a saucepan over medium heat.
How do you store apples for the winter?
First, select sturdier apples with thick skins. Store in a cool, dry place, like your fridge crisper drawer or even in a sheltered outdoor area like a garage or shed. Learn more about

Try adding a little vanilla....yum.
I made the apples and of course the flavor was delicious. Butter and sugar. How can you go wrong. The problem was it said medium heat, cover 20 min and then cook more uncovered. That was way too long. Once the apples cooled they turned to mush. I like texture and shape to the apples. 5 to 10 min uncovered is enough cooking time if you like some texture. The apples keep getting softer and sorter even after you turn of the heat. Also I added 1/2 cup sugar and that was way too much. I cannot eat things that just taste like pure sugar so I had to add more apples to balance all that extra sugar. 1/4 cup sugar would have been fine to begin with.
I also grew up with fried apples....and yes, I am from Oklahoma...Dewar....down the road from Prague. Now, I add some dried fruit. It doesn't matter if they cook down, it just makes some very chunky apple sauce!!!
my mother always made these. I do now and then. We eat them with pork chops.
I’ve made a version of this for years. Def leave the peel on! And I bake it rather than fry. Much easier.
This is a great recipe. Had to cook the apples a lot longer than called for though. Hubby's birthday is in 2 days and I asked what desert he would like and he picked this one. We put vanilla yogurt and vanilla almond granola over the apples which is fabulous!
We have loved this way of cooking apples for years! Don’t hesitate to use any tart apple! When we make it for breakfast we use half bacon grease. We do reduce the sugar a little and sometimes use brown sugar. Soo good!!
I thank whomevers mom made this! It was fabulous. I made apple crisp with the leftovers! My only question is, how do I can this?
So easy and so good. Complements any meal as a side dish orna dessert. Makes me almost ready for fall.
I have literally made it today and it tastes incredible! It reminds me of the apples in an apple crumble, sweet but not too sweet! Enjoyed it very much, and it was such an easy make!
