  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • Red colored sugar, optional

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Whisk together the egg, milk and vanilla; add to butter mixture. Stir in flour mixture; stir in oats.
  2. On a floured surface, roll the dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut into heart shapes; place on ungreased baking sheets. Decorate with red sugar if desired. Bake at 375° for 15-18 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
Test Kitchen Tip
  • Take time to cream the butter and sugar until it's light and fluffy, that will help your dough come together easily.
