Oh-So-Good Oatmeal
Add extra nutrition to fiber-rich oatmeal by adding chopped apple and almonds. My two boys demand seconds! At 1-1/2 cups per serving, it's hearty and filling; and at zero cholesterol, what's not to love? —Danielle Pepa, Elgin, Illinois

This is such an easy recipe and you have a wonderful, hot bowl of oatmeal in no time at all. I used honey crisp apples so I adjusted the sugar to a bit less than the recipe and it was perfect. I am saving this recipe!

Absolutely delish! I was looking for a healthy breakfast recipe low in fat and this is my go to. The sugar can be adjusted to your liking but I love it as is.
Made a smaller portion because it's just two of us, but I cut back on the brown sugar and it was a good idea. way too sweet. I just added a dash of vanilla as well and topped with cinnamon instead of mixing it in. And I made it with half water half almond milk. Super creamy delicious!
We loved this oatmeal. I may cut back on the brown sugar next time but you may like it as is. I used a Granny Smith apple and quick cooking oats which was all I had but only cooked 1 minute instead of 5. Delicious!! We cleaned our plates. Quick, easy, and delicious. Volunteer Field Editor
Just like my momma taught me to make oatmeal. I can never remember the proportions. Your add-ins are delish!
Simple, delicious, and so much better for you than instant oatmeal. Because of what was in my pantry, I sprinkled dried cranberries and honey toasted pecans instead of almonds on top. I also added a splash of two of almond milk once cooked. This is definitely worth a try.
After so many tries, at last I found a fantastic oatmeal recipe. Made it this morning and I must say it is absolutely wonderful. What a great healthy dish. Followed the recipe exactly with the exception of dicing the apples in bigger chunks. The amount of brown sugar gave this the perfect amount of sweetness. Great breakfast on chilly days in upstate New York. Thank you for sharing your recipe, this is a keeper in my recipe file.
First, a note to zucchini lady and chicky504. If you don't pick how many stars you want to rate a recipe, it averages in as 0! I really liked the recipe's overwhelming fruit flavor. I like oatmeal but oatmeal not doctored up gets old quickly. To cut down on the number of carbs a little, I substituted the brown sugar with 1t stevia. I also used honeycrisp apples which added sweetness. I only had quick cooking oats so I put those in after removing from the heat. I also sprinkled cubed strawberries on top. Very yummy recipe! Thanks for sharing.
We love this oatmeal!
