Simon’s Famous Tuna Salad

This nicely seasoned tuna salad from Simon Seitz of Highland, New York makes for a simple and satisfying lunch. Crunchy carrots give it a unique and tasty twist you'll love.

  • 3 cans (5 ounces each) light water-packed tuna, drained and flaked
  • 3/4 cup fat-free mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped carrot
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dill weed
  • 10 slices whole wheat bread, toasted
  • 5 lettuce leaves


  • In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. For each sandwich, layer a slice of toast with a lettuce leaf and 1/2 cup tuna salad. Top with a second slice of toast.

    What a wonderful tuna salad. As others stated, a nice change from the tuna with sweet relish. This is just a perfect combination of flavors. Will definitely make this one often.

    We totally loved this tuna salad! Such a nice change from the usual tuna salad with sweet relish. Loved the celery, carrot and seasonings. As a personal preference, I did add more mayo than indicated to reach our desired consistency. Everything else remained the same. Also, I've made this with fresh parsley, as well as with dill and loved both versions. This is my new go-to tuna salad recipe!

    My family *really* enjoyed this recipe! It was a refreshing change from the usual tuna salad sandwiches. I especially liked the balance of seasonings. I also added a chopped baby dill pickle into it and a sprinkle of Nature's Seasonings. I used a little less tuna, too, as my favorite brand doesn't come in cans that large. I halved the recipe and used 2 Bumble Bee cans (5 fl oz or 4 dry oz. each). Delicious! I would definitely make this again!

    I love this! A nice change from the traditional tuna salad. I found the amount of seasonings to be just perfect for me, but you can always adjust to suit your preferences. It’s easy to put together too. Definitely a recipe I’ll be using again.

    My family loved this new spin on the classic tuna salad sandwich. I usually just make mine with mayonnaise and pickles but will definitely be making this more often! I feel like the recipe made more than 5 servings as well. But I also may have used more carrot and celery because I freestyled instead of measuring.

    I thought this was very good. I got six sandwiches out of it though; making 5 was too much tuna for my taste. Very simple to make and carries well for lunch. Will most likely make again.

    Hands down, a family favorite. The colorful addition of carrots also gives the sandwich a nice crunch. This is exactly what all those other tuna sandwiches are missing.

    A tuna specialty! I go generous on all my seasonings (onion, garlic, dill). For extra texture & flavor, try diced water chesnuts, scallions and/or tangy dill relish to taste!
