Skillet Sausage Stuffing

To make this sausage stuffing, I dressed up a package of stuffing mix with pork sausage, mushrooms, celery and onion. It impressed my in-laws at a family gathering and has since become a popular side dish with my husband and children. —Jennifer Lynn Cullen, Taylor, Michigan

Test Kitchen Tips
  • Dried herbs have their place in plenty of recipes, but stuffing isn’t one of them. Try a combination of fresh parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,
  • Homemade croutons will really make your stuffing shine. Any loaf of bread will work, favorites are country loaf, sourdough, brioche or rye loaf. Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and toss them into a 300°F oven until they’re dry and crisp, about 45 minutes. Get more tips for best-ever stuffing.

I used hot sausage, half the celery called for and more onion. Same ingredients just different amounts on a few for our tastes. It was delicious!!

Made this using bulk hot Italian sausage and it turned out really well!! Making it again tonight with plain bulk pork. Thanks for a quick and hearty meal for two of us to eat!

This is So good and so easy to make. It was a huge hit. Thank goodness I doubled the recipe. It's very flavorful. I made my own bread cubes using sourdough bread. i will definitely make this again.

I love this dish! Favorite way to serve? With a poached egg or two on top of a big mound of it!

Loved this though added another box of Stove Top Stuffing only because mine came out a bit too wet. I think I cooked the sausage/onion/celery mix too long and didn't add mushrooms since my husband isn't fond of them. Well, that was a little too much stuffing, so I'll cut back on the liquid next time. This flavor though is out-of-this-world. Used bulk Italian sausage.

Do you use plain packaged stuffing or stove top turkey stuffing ?

I actually made this for Thanksgiving instead of stuffing the turkey, but used the hot pork sausage. I made it ahead of time and put it in the crockpot. Everyone loved it. Will definitely do this again.
