Slow-Cooked Swiss Steak

This is one of my favorite recipes to make because I can flour and season the steaks and refrigerate them overnight. The next morning, I just put all the ingredients in the slow cooker, and I have a delicious dinner waiting when I arrive home from work. —Sarah Burks, Wathena, Kansas

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1-1/2 pounds beef round steak, cut into 6 pieces
  • 1 medium onion, cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 1 celery rib, cut into 1/2-inch slices
  • 2 cans (8 ounces each) tomato sauce

Directions

  • In a bowl or shallow dish, combine the flour, salt and pepper. Add the steak and turn to coat.
  • Place the onion in a greased 3-qt. slow cooker. Top with the steak, celery and tomato sauce. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until meat is tender.

    We make this with rice and enough water gor the rice in the bottom of the slowcooker. Delicious meal. Feel free to add bell pepper strips and carrots if desired.

    nauticalady: how do you highlight only what you want to print? I used to just select the reviews I wanted to print, but for some reason I can't do that anymore. Anyway, this is a good basic recipe.

    Yummy! This has become a go to for me. WW friendly and so tender. I used traditional oven with my roasting pan covered tightly with foil at 190-200 degrees. Just my preference for red meat and so successful.

    Awesome meal.fast and easy. Meat so tender. Used tomatoe soup and added green pepper. Soooo good.

    This is a version of the way I’ve made Swiss Steak for 40 years, except I use 2 cans of condensed tomato soup instead of tomato sauce. It makes a sweeter sauce. It can also be cooked in a regular oven after browning. In recent years, my family has insisted that we add a can sweet corn before serving it over noodles.

    i MADE THIS FOR DINNER LAST NIGHT. My husband LOVED it!!! He's a picky eater when it comes to new dinners. I could make this again tonight and he'd be thrilled. I served it over whole wheat noodles. Wonderful. Passed it on.

    Flavor was good but dredging did NOT work for me. Had to scrape it off, turned out thick.

    My son and husband are very picky about new recipes, but absolutely loved this one. It was a little tomatoie, so I added packaged au ju and it was perfect' Thank You I also add red potatoes, cut in fourths, placed them over meat in crock-pot. Every thing came out perfect. Might try adding mushrooms next time also.
