Slow-Cooker Spiced Mixed Nuts
Total TimePrep: 15 min. Cook: 1 hour 50 min. + cooling
I have been making this recipe for years now. Sometimes I change up the nut ratios and types a bit, but that's the only change I make. I have no problems with burned or mushy nuts. The nuts dry all thickly crusted with sugar and spices and are perfect for bagging up and including in gift bags. it's best not to let them sit around in the kitchen long because that will end up being all you eat for the holidays. :D
I made these for a singles Christmas Party and they were very well received. Everyone could not believe that they were made in a crock pot and one lady even asked for the recipe. I noticed that quite a few people kept going back for seconds and thirds. Instead of using all of the nuts, I used a 2# bag of pecan halves and doubled the recipe. I went home with an empty pan.
These turned out OK after I adjusted the recipe. No white sugar needed. Added Chili powder for more spice and forget the crock pot, the nuts do not crisp up. Use the oven on low heat and save some time.
I made these nuts looking for a low sodium alternative to pre packaged nuts. I omitted the salt altogether and they still came out fantastic. I think I will reduce the sugars next time as there seemed to be an excessive amount so I just used a slotted spoon to sift the nuts out of the excess sugar. My Hubby thought they were fantastic!!!!!!! Thanks for such a great recipe.
I Don't understand how some said they burnt. I sprayed with Pam, added the water whenever I stirred, every fifteen minutes. Making a second batch now
I made these as is and thought they were too sweet. For the next batch, I halved the sugars and spices, and I think they turned out much better. I gave them away as Christmas gifts to co-workers. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I'll be making it again this year.
Made these for my sisters co-workers and they were devoured! Even asked if I sold them! Very easy and very delicious
These nuts were not a good recipe to try in the slow cooker. The coating was way too sweet and heavy. After they were finished , I got to thinking to finish them in the oven for a more crispy nut.....Just in the slow cooker they did not come out crispy. This is not a recipe I would make again. Sorry. There are better recipes for spiced nuts.
Trying to make these nuts in the slow cooker/crock pot was a huge waste of time and, to put it bluntly, a mess. I ended up taking them out of the crock pot and finishing them off in the oven at 300 F for about 20-25 minutes. The taste of the nuts were just okay and the recipe makes a large, extra amount of sugar mixture that goes to waste. The mixture coats the nuts so heavily that it's difficult to taste the nuts themselves and all you get is a mouthful of sugar/spice mixture. I'll look for another recipe.
A new favorite to add to my holiday goody list. First batch was so good, I immediately made a second batch for gifts and parties coming up. Thanks for sharing.
