Sugar Cookies

This sugar cookie dates back to a Swedish woman born in 1877! Her daughter, Esther Davis, shared the recipe with me and she came up with all the exact measurements, since the original cookies were mixed by feel and taste. These are my favorite cookies and I hope they'll become yours as well. —Helen Wallis, Vancouver, Washington

These are very easy to make, and they taste great. I like using colored sugars to make them a bit fancier and/or seasonal. Simple but so tasty!

It's not cream ch÷se, it's stick shortening, like Crisco.

Janet, What looks like cream cheese is shortening cut from a stick (available by the canned shortening).

Janet: I believe that is the Crisco slice to measure. It does look like cream cheese.

In the video I see cream cheese and no shortening? Which is correct? Thanks a bunch.

I am getting ready to make these cookies and I noticed that it only called for 1 cup of sugar. Were the cookies sweet with with just 1 cup of sugar?
