Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke, optional
  • 3/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Liquid Smoke if desired and seasonings. Cook and stir until heated through.
  2. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. Use as a basting sauce for grilled meats.
