Tangy Sloppy Joes
“I first tasted this recipe at a rehearsal dinner for a church Christmas program about 20 years ago,” writes Sharon De Roos of Elgin, Illinois. “It's the best sloppy joe mix that I have ever had and I receive many compliments, and of course, requests for the recipe!”

Good with ground turkey, too. I enjoyed the crunch of the veggies.
My husband LOVED this. I thought it was pretty tasty myself! Since we're not used to tangy sloppy joes, I decided to cut back a bit so we could sort of ease into it. I only did 1 tsp cider vinegar, and added an extra 1/4tsp of brown sugar. Next time I will increase the vinegar a bit more, since I found the ketchup taste was a bit dominant. We put these on King's Hawaiian hamburger rolls. The sweetness of the rolls really took this to another level. I'll definitely be making this again.
I doubled this recipe and brought it to a family function and they were devoured, everyone loved them! This will be staying in my recipe rotation! Easy, one pot delicious recipe!
Very tasty, much better than the canned stuff! It had a little tang to it which we liked but if you didn't want the twang you could either use 1/2 the vinegar or add a little more brown sugar,
Very good. My favorite but will leave out the vinegar next time. Wife says a little too tangy.
to sherri 928 hot sauce is not the same as chili sauce You can get a 12 oz bottle of Heinz chili sauce in the ketchup isle.
Great recipe! I liked that it called for chili sauce, gave it just a slight tang. Even though I doubled the recipe, it was quickly eaten by a group of hungry teenagers! As a volunteer food editor for Taste of Home, I enjoy making recipes that can be quickly assembled with ingredients I have on hand.
Love it! It's a family favorite - will never use canned again!
I made sloppy joes for years from the Betty Crocker's Cookbook for Boys & Girls recipe, but wanted to get away from using tomato soup. Have been trying many recipes, and my husband really likes this one--he said it has more "zip". So I will make this one now--thanks!
We love this recipe. Even our daughter who doesn't like this type of meal requests these often.
